Response to a letter from a sister in the Lord (at Easter):
- Just revisiting your words earlier… you wrote “God did establish churches. “Do not forsake the assembling of yourselves together” The churches would have you believe that but it is NOT Jesus’ words. You will see eventually as you concentrate on what Jesus spoke. God never established churches but rather ONE church. The believers are scattered throughout the world, and supporting division is not what He would approve of. Every denomination is a division based upon irreconcilable doctrines. I was there to witness attempts men made to end that. It didn’t work because the entire system is NOT what Jesus initiated, rather it is what man has initiated… trying to be God’s little helpers. The scripture you quoted… “Do not forsake the assembling of yourselves together” Jesus never said.. that was one of the Disciples and the Disciples were still trying to fit their traditional religious practices into the New Covenant. Jesus actually said at the time his crucifixion was near, “Strike the shepherd and the flock will scatter.” “You will be scattered each to his own home.” Those who justify the division will say this only applies to the time of the crucifixion. There were (still are) many disagreements among the Disciples (believers) over practice…but thankfully none over God’s plan of salvation. Let me cite one that the Lord did NOT say but important to note what was happening in the early church, the Apostle Paul wrote… “By now you should be teachers. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the first things you need to know from God’s Word. You still need milk instead of solid food.” (This should have ended with a ? mark). The early church was becoming dependent upon continuously receiving and there were those who were happy to accommodate them to keep returning to hear the basics when they should have received the Holy Spirit and were more than equipped to go forth and spread the good news of what God has done via his cross and resurrection. They perpetuated a way to incorporate the Old Covenant ways with the New. Ironically in their attempt to merge the old and the new, they enhanced Sin… Sin is a unique self-awareness initiated by God’s enemy back in the garden. At one point Paul tried to stop the growing division when he protested, “What I mean is this: Individuals among you are saying, “I follow Paul,” “I follow Apollos,” “I follow Cephas,” or “I follow Christ…Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized in the name of Paul?” No my dear sister… it is no good to avoid being persecuted by telling the “churches” this is NOT what Jesus intends for His people. It also nullifies Jesus’ very words that we would be persecuted in the same way He was… and that being by the then equivalent to the religion of His time with us. If you stand in a congregation and try to point out what is from Jesus’ words, you will be ostracised. It will be then that Jesus’ words become apparent. It is NOT easy to stand boldly for Jesus and not placate the churches… but we are the Church. What message is it that the world sees only division by denomination? They see disunity. I should add, I rather misspoke when I wrote, “not easy to stand boldly for Jesus and not placate the churches…” though it in reality Should be easy IF our love for Jesus and His people is our motivation.
- Some people have tried to tell me to start a church… I refused… because Only Jesus is to be our Pastor.. and He does so effectively by His Holy Spirit. I am not going to endorse anyone who is in that role and I will not condemn them because who am I except a brother? They believe they are doing God’s will as do I, but God knows all of us. God will judge us. I will testify of the matters Jesus told us, and within the context He spoke. Some things are in the context of the Old Covenant BEFORE He was Crucified and Glorified. The other things He spoke to us within the New Covenant when He was Glorified. There is a difference, the Holy Spirit will teach all these things. For now, you are suspicious of me because you believe I am not a pastor… and you will believe someone who claims to be but that is NOT Jesus.. that is the spirit of religion… You and me and all the brothers and sisters in Jesus are given the commission to share the Gospel of Jesus… how He saved us… how he will save all who seek Him with their heart.
